WITHOUT WARNING DVD INFO

Alot of IMDB users have been pondering to the point of frustration why this underated, cult classic has not been fully restored, enriched to high clarity and packed with special features. Well lets go back a little bit in history to track what happend to this lost classic, and why it has yet to be released on DVD here in the USA as it so rightly deserves to be....

- A well known now defunct company called Filmways released "Without Warning" mostly to the drive in circuit back in 1980...
(CBS held the television rights and broadcasted it for the first time in 1984)

- Filmways was aquired only a few years later by Orion Pictures.

- Orion Pictures Bankruptcy resulted in MGM purchasing most of their library with "without Warning" being one of those films.

- Today MGM facing collapse has been put up on the bidding block with major companies such as Lionsgate and TimeWarner competing for Leo the Lion. As of March 2010 TimeWarner is the highest bidder for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and for the future of this sci-fi fan favorite well I guess will just have to leave it in the hands of those that hold the gold!

Personal Notes: I strongly suggest to fans of this film to keep posted to the sale of MGM. Whoever reigns victorious, TimeWarner, etc... make sure you send all the letters, petitions, reasons why you want this movie on DVD. It has happened many times before that fans have made films breath life again on DVD. Without Warning is no exception!

*** The details in the subject matter of this post have been lengthened to the aqusitions here in the USA only. Other territories that own rights to this film have not been mentioned ***

This film was released in the UK under the title The Warning by either Warner Bros or Guild Home Video (cant remember which one) this is to me a classic and i loved it, i managed to obtain an original VHS release back in the 90's and i still have it now in a box somewhere in the basement, i keep meaning to dig it out along with my old video recorder (yep still have one of those) and transfer it to DVD, the original quality for VHS was very good and hopefully the tape has not degraded over the years. I would certainly purchase this if it was released on DVD.

KEEP THE OLD ONES ALIVE :)

I don't know of any DVD plans, but MGM HD is actually playing Without Warning this month. It still looks like a cheap '80s flick, but certainly looks way better than it ever has before.

I remember the movie freaking me out as a kid, but now it's hilarious.

Forget about the DVD that they can't manage to bring out.

Here is a nice quality HDTV capture of the movie:

Well Fox/MGM is now releasing first time on DVD movies from the vaults. They're unfortunately "MOD", or burned copies, but if they're anything like the Warner Archives releases the quality should be pretty good.

Without Warning and Blood Beach are both now owned by MGM. Hopefully they'll release them on DVD soon. They already released Incredible Melting Man, Quatermass Experiment and a few others.

I Hope Mgm Will Release NEW YEARS EVILS Thats A Classic.

MGM *is* releasing "New Years' Evil" on MOD DVD-R sometimes next month or in July.

That's cool that they own "Blood Beach" now. I hope "Without Warning" and "Blood Beach" make their digital debuts sooner rather than later.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

Well Shout Factory!'s new horror division called Scream Factory just signed a deal to release catalog MGM titles!! Hopefully Without Warning will be one of the first titles as they were really great releasing the Roger Corman catalog. I just received the Halloween II bluray from Scream Factory and it's awesome.

I also purchased most of the horror/sci-fi Roger Corman movies they released two years ago. You have to see Humanoids From The Deep, Piranha & Galaxy of Terror in hi-def!!!

reply

That's fantastic, I didn't know they'd signed a deal with MGM. Scream Factory is right now teasing us by revealing two new titles every Friday. Maybe we'll see an announcement regarding "Without Warning" one of these Fridays.

I too have almost all of the "Roger Corman's Cult Classics" series.

Well they're releasing TerrorVision and The Nest in a few weeks. I love Shout/Scream Factory. They do a great job with the restorations, pack them full of special features AND keep them affordable.

Such a crime that Twilight Time is the complete opposite.
