This movie is HORRIBLE!!!!!

How could anyone like this movie?

Lets start with the acting- Palance and Landau probably give their worst performances of their careers-they must have needed money that year. Caruso in one of his first performances was forgetful. The best actor was the barmaid handling the bar/grill. That is sad!

The movie itself made no sense. Why was this alien here on earth? Just to collect trophies? What purpose were they?

I was hoping for a good B movie from 1980-what I got was s**t!

Avoid at all costs!

To the OP, wasn't Predator exactly the same just here to collect trophies?

reply

Yes,this movie is slow in parts, but so
were other old movies.WITHOUT WARNING
is one of my all-time favorite movies.
I saw this on HBO back in the 80s and
like most others on this board,it
scared the crap out of me!
I own a really good-quality bootleg of
this movie on DVD and I still like it.
Even if it's a little dated,it still is
creepy.

I don't think it's "horrible", but it most certainly isn't good at all.
I'd give it a 5, not more.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

Jack Palance, Neville Brand, Walter Landau, and Sue Anne Langdon (the platinum blonde bartender) are actors who I enjoy watching. I was pleasantly surprised that the movie actually tried to have a plot, good characterizations, and a variety of characters. It's always been extremely hard to find a horror where actors past the age of 40 have a significant amount of screen time. You know damn well if this movie had been made today Jack Palance's character would have been played by a more handsome (but bland-looking) actor between the ages of 20-40. Martin Landau's character would have been some grizzled redneck with a stereotypical southern accent. So I found it good at least for the diversity of characters.

It's true how prior to the 90s they made a lot of bad horror like they do today. But I am always amazed how diverse the characters and actors were in some of those movies in terms of age, gender, characterization, and race are compared to today's horror. It's sad how filmmakers today (both indie and major Hollywood) are so afraid of taking risks in filmmaking.

So I liked the movie. Plus, I liked the fact that there wasn't the usual "gotcha! the monster's really not dead" type of ending.

Well the alien was awesome. Fast forward to the last ten minutes and you've got gold.

reply

Yeah, forget all the suspense and story and just "fast forward" to the end. 

You are the perfect type of viewer for children's shows. This movie is too well made for you. You should limit your viewing to Tickle-Me-Elmo which has something happening every second to your placate your limited attention span.

My limited attention span? I watched the movie in its entirety. I just wouldn't recommend anyone with a spine to do so unless they want to fall asleep. That is my opinion. If you thought it deserved oscars all around, well good for you!

Just because I enjoyed the ending more than the rest of the movie, I should watch Tickle-Me-Elmo? My favorite type of movie is a bad horror movie. I generally search for these to find redeeming qualities. Let me like what I like. And stop making judgments towards other people based on movie preferences.

Like i allways said opions are noses everyone has one and let other people watch if they like and your review wont matter !

Personally I really enjoyed it. The actors did a good job given what the budget was and I bet they had a hell of a lot of fun with this film. It was funny, eerie, suspenseful and I loved that it was a small town in the middle of nowhere for the setting, no stupid cellular phones or glowing screens in sight. Unlike many low budget horror films, Without Warning wasn't crude. There was hardly any swearing or sexual content, it just focused on telling a good story. The soundtrack was pretty good, a mix of pianos and synthesized sounds, and I was actually pretty impressed by the acting. I'm not saying it's an excellent film, but I still really liked it and had fun watching it, and that's what the horror genre is all about. 😁

Cool.

Poor acting is a myth.

That's literally the plot of Predator. The Alien is here hunting. No more needs to be known.

reply

Very true - swap out trained military commandos for everyday schmucks and you've got it!

When I was 11 and saw this and that fucking alien in the mist I about shit my underoos. Scary as fuck back then... now? Not so much.

reply

I don't doubt it.

I only saw it for the first time yesterday. Grey Aliens can be creepy at the best of times but making it a 7ft5+* hunter with boomeranging flying suckers is both badass and intimidating. Easy to see it scaring younger viewers.

*the actor was 7ft2 but with that huge Alien skull it must be 7ft5+.

One of the first horror movies I saw on VHS back in the early 80's. It was scary and disgusting at the same time. Bought a blu-ray for nostalgia reasons.

Plus it's got the last film appearance of Mike Hammer himself, Mr. Ralph Meeker. Why he appeared in the near-nothing role of some random barfly remains a mystery to me.
