let's all start a movement to get this little gem on dvd

reply

I have not seen it but I would like to.

I would love to see this piece of trash released on DVD because I'm very curious about it, but I wonder if there's enought interest. Maybe Bill Gates can take up the cause and use it to promote his software?

Anyone who's seen the movie would not call it a "hidden gem" like 'robby' did. Calling it "trash" is more like it but it does have a morbid fascination to offer those so inclined to watch it (like me). I have procured 3 original PAL tapes of WINDOWS. It was released in 1986 on Warner Home Video UK. I think the BBFC edited some of the assault scene out that's at the beginning of the movie (where Talia is forced to make noises into a tape recorder). Either way it's a fu**ed up movie!!! I've watched it twice and it's an "experience" like no other . . .

TRACKDOWN from '76 with Jim Mitchum is what I'd call a true hidden gem.

I've only seen clips of "Windows," from when I took a gay film class and this was presented as an example of the lesbian slasher genre. I don't know why I'm so drawn to crap like this, but I think it has a lot to do with it being taboo and obscure. It's probably the same reason that I just watched "Showgirls" again -- though that piece of trash could stand to be a lot more obscure.

And "Trackdown," and film I haven't heard of until now, sounds terrific.

TRACKDOWN is definitely a cool '70s flick. Great music score! I have never figured out why it was never released on video here in the U.S. VIGILANTE FORCE is another 1976 movie that was never released on video here. But it's on Warner Home Video in the UK. I've got 2 copies of TRACKDOWN and 4 copies of VIGILANTE FORCE (I didn't want to run out). I also have a few copies of HICKEY AND BOGGS (1972), which has never had a proper video release. The A.I.P Films Canadian DVD of H & B is dreadful. Ugh! I bought it before I got my PAL player. The 21-year old PAL ex-rental tapes look better than that excremental DVD.

Another 1976 action movie that's not been released on video anywhere I can find is FIGHTING MAD with Peter Fonda. Shame on Fox. Bastards.

Other 1976 action movies I can think of: MOVING VIOLATION (Key Video), A SMALL TOWN IN TEXAS (Vestron Video), BREAKING POINT (no video release I can find -- but it's a Fox film I think).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are braver than I: I bought SHOWGIRLS years ago brand new on MGM Home Video and attempted to watch it. I got through 20 minutes and said "Enough Is Enough". WINDOWS is an Oscar contender compared to what I saw of SHOWGIRLS.

I get the feeling WINDOWS may be buried forever. God Bless Warner Home Video UK for releasing WINDOWS that one time in 1986 (along with TRACKDOWN).

"Somebody loves Emily . . . too much".

Perhaps sometime you'll be able to see WINDOWS in its entirety. It's truly a jaw-dropping experience.

Until next time. -CG

The fact that WINDOWS has been all but buried makes it a must see. It was the first film released in 1980 and therefore the first film of the new decade. It opened and closed in a week. It was Gordon Wilis' debut and swan song. Dark and grimy, a smart rep theater should double billed it with WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR? I'd love a DVD release of WINDOWS complete with trailer. WE WANT WINDOWS!WE WANT WINDOWS!

reply

WINDOWS seems to be well-buried by Warner's. Compared to some of the utter garbage that comes out today WINDOWS looks better now than it would have in 1980. My opinion, anyway.

Heck, maybe I'll dare to drag out my PAL tape of WINDOWS and watch it again for a 3rd time.

I actually watched this on tv back in 2002 and thought it was a good thriller.

I can't understand some of the negative user comments.

maybe it's only because of the fact the movie puts gay people in a negative light?

The opening rape scene was quite shocking, wasn't graphic just implied.

reply

it puts one(nonexistent)gay person in a negative light.

I've never seen this movie yet, but I hope to one day just out of curiosity. I remember seeing newspaper ads for it, and if I recall it lasted only a few days in theatres. I also remember seeing a TV ad for it once, and I mean literally once, although I can't remember the exact details of it. I only recall that the TV ad made Windows look a little scary and it kinda freaked me out. I was 12 at the time.

Who knows, maybe some day a company such as Anchor Bay, Blue Underground or Code Red will acquire the rights to get it on DVD. I realize many people have commented on how dreadful it is but, like I said, it is a curiosity.
