Not as bad as some people say...

Saw 'Wildcats' last evening, and following its less-than-glowing tributes, I was prepared to be totally bored out of my skull, but it wasn't as horrible as some reviewers have made it out to be.

The 1980s 'update' was a little jarring, as I grew up watching the 'young ladies' of St Trinian's as originally set in the 50's and 60's, and I always thoroughly enjoyed the marvellous George Cole as Flash Harry. Harry was played here by Joe Melia, who had a slight resemblance to the original, and one sort of got used to him as the film progressed.

Certainly, there were the more-often-than-not silly situations, and over the top ideas, but I managed to produce one or two laughs, and a bagful of chuckles. (Maybe my few glasses of red wine assisted there...)

I wouldn't rank it up there with the first four films, but it IS part of the St Trinian's Collection, and as such, deserves a place on my DVD shelf between "The Great St Trinian's Train Robbery" (1966) and the later (2007) "St Trinian's".

I will give it a year or so, and probably watch it again.

watched it today on internet....my feeling: not as good as the early trio and George Cole well out of it ... a little bit behind the train robbery in quality of production but it had its moments and was as silly a plot as most movies are. Easily as much fun as the much later entries which were pretty flat. Maybe that is due in part to the era of British Comedy in which it was produced. Who was the main sixth former / activist, the one with the strange hair piece dangling over her face and at times through a hole in her hat? It looked like she should have gone on but I don't remember hearing her ( character) name? and there are not many thumbnail pics on Imdb.. anyone know? Veronica Quilligan?

I, too, would like to know who played her, so as to be able to avoid her in the future.

I found her to be crass, over the top, and one spiteful piece of work. Some of the other girls were straight carbon-copies of the ones from the previous films, and as a result, quite entertaining.....but this one must have been dredged up from under the floor somewhere... The more the movie wore on, the more distasteful I found her to be.

By the end, I was ready to wring her bloody neck!

Oh, well....

I'd argue that the earlier films are not as good as many claim, and that this film is much worse than many claim. It was awful beyond words. If you could blend Donald Trump and Nigel Farage and sprinkle the result with shavings of Putin... you'd still have a more desirable mess than this film. The best thing about it? The relief when it ended.

"Gizza job! I can do that!"
