Trivia Oddity

In the trivia section it says:

"John Candy was originally cast in the film playing Joe Flaherty's role, but ultimately dropped out because his agent erroneously double-booked him while he was filming 1941 (1979)."

Yet Frank McCrae is in both this and 1941! How could he do it and Candy could not?

Interesting point.

Depends on how much screen time they had in both movies. Candy was a different kind of actor than Flaherty and may have had more lines and screen time when he was being considered for the role.

There are actually over 30 people who were involved in the production of both 1941 and Used Cars - from respective directors Spielberg and Zemeckis to several actors including McCrae, McKean - even Joe Flaherty himself.

It does sound a bit questionable that John Candy would have been unable to do Used Cars because of 1941 while the others could. He does have a much larger role in 1941 than any of the common actors, and yet many of his scenes are with Frank McCrae, who has one of the leads in UC.

It might be a trivia mistake on the part of IMDb; maybe it should say Blues Brothers instead of 1941 (another pair of movies with many of the same cast/crew), which makes more sense since BB and UC were closer to being filmed at the same time.

Good call, I forgot about Flaherty in 1941
