i love this movie-- i want to remake it!

i admit. i only bought this movie because it has deborah harry in it. however, after i watched it several times, i understood everything that the film is supposed to represent.
lillian is a desperate housewife, and she finds new love in the arms of her landlord. she is unhappy with her marriage, but it doesn't matter because her husband is driving even himself crazy, thus resulting in his suicide. the contessa is a great character, however i'm still not confident on my film-noir trivia, so i think some satire might exist that i'm not getting. either way. this is a beautifully shot film, with a star (deborah harry) who is immacculate and always a beautiful treat. the lighting is off sometimes, however, considering the simplicity of the plot, this film rocks!
though it will be a very long time before i make a film of my own, i think it would be so cool to have deborah harry to play, if not ressurecting her role as lillian, the contessa. that is solely because she is getting the whole mysterious old lady thing down. but, hell she still looks like the fresh face on the "plastic letters" 8-track to me!

don't worry. i certainly see why you may think that. it isn't a problem. however, i disagree with you thinking deborah harry is a bad actress. she plays quirky characters and she is a perfect fit for the characters she plays.

Let's face it; Deborah Harry did suck in this film in the traditional sense of what we expect from actresses. But in another sense, she played her character ideally, that being one of aloofness and in a trance-like state most of the time. Her dry line reads work with this style of acting as a result! It adds to the film-noir quality of the movie over-all...and it contrasts nicely with Dennis Lipscomb's highly agitated performance (which is top notch, professional acting).

This film was originally a stage production that was adapted for film, if I recall correctly. All the way around, the Director did a great job of drawing you in to the quirky, small world in which all of these characters live. He wasn't afraid to let scenes drag on for effect either, sometimes even dialog-free scenes!

I still love this under-appreciated and little-known movie. It was made at a time when low-budget, Indie-style film-noir was at it's best, in my opinion.
