Although I was able to find a homemade DVD of Gamera Super Monster (U.S. name) on eBay, I would still love to see MGM release it as part of the Midnight Movies DVD series, since they own the Filmways Catalogue of movies (Filmways was the American distributor). A great widescreen copy with at least an American trailer would be great!
shareIt's doubtful MGM would release it on DVD because of its reputation. And there's no American trailer. The movie went direct to television (debuting on MTV, no less!) a few months after its Japanese theatrical release.
shareMaybe I was just seeing things, but during the movie the characters ran past a big poster and it knocked over, and the poster looked like it was Godzilla.
shareThe filmmakers were obviously knocking on the "Gojira" franchise - the Japanese characters in the title of the poster translate to "Dojira" if memory serves. I imagine that Toho would have bankrupt Daiei itself if they had used the real name. . .

Looks like my prayers have been answered. There's a copy of the US version coming out on DVD Sept 25/07. It one of the Elvira double feature DVD's. SWEET!

I never saw any GAMERA Elvira DVD for sale anywhere. I never even knew she featured it on her show, but hey I'd like to find a copy. Sadly, though, I have two of her other episodes, and the picture quality is probably below average.

This movie has been released by Shout! Factory on a DVD doublebill with "Gamera Vs. Zigra." It's a nice quality widescreen print. Moreover, the sole extra is a photo gallery with several publicity pictures for the film.
