1985?

In brief, 20th Century Fox originally had the rights to this movie, since they had an overall deal for movies from producer Melvin Simon (MY BODYGUARD, PORKY'S). But they only tested it in a couple cities before shelving it. Somehow, Universal picked it up and were just as lukewarm about it until a couple of screenings and critical receptions prodded them to take it to the rest of the country in 1985. Thus, it's understandable why it's being dated to '85, as that is when the bulk of America got a chance to see it theatrically.

And as usual, music rights are standing in the way of a proper DVD release.
