Worst Soundtrack Cuts?

When I owned the cassette version of the soundtrack, I skipped the awful Robin Gibb song, both "Damb Dog" songs and the Trini Alvarado song(I can't recall the title). I'm curious if anyone else hated those songs, or any other songs on the soundtrack?

reply

'Your Daughter Is One' and 'Flowers in the City' with Johnson and David Jo. Yes, that Gibb/Levy cut was true fast fwd material, but they were under contract with RSO, so they came as a package deal.

This tape graced many a cut-out bin in the early 80's. I miss mine, I think it fell apart. Maybe I can find it in a Goodwill somewhere...that's where a lot of vinyl ends up.

"Flowers in the City," a worst soundtrack cut? Um... no. IMO it was supposed to be the song that played over the closing credits, not the Gibb tune... that's why it's not actually in the movie anywhere.

The vinyl turns up on EBay nonstop. Sealed copies too. Stay away from anyone selling it on CD, unless it's really cheap... they're all just recordings off a record and sound like crap.

There was only one "cut" in the movie that didn't belong. The Bee Gees.

The Bee Gees song was inserted by Robert Stigwood a low life scum bag who ruined this movie.

You see, Mr. Stigwood owned rights to Bee Gee songs and wanted them on the album.

He had the money so that's the way it is. .F*ing scumbag.

As far as "Damn Dog" and "Your Daughter is One" are central to the movie and aren't bad songs on their own, Notably "Your Daughter is One."

I guess you didn't see the movie, otherwise you wouldn't have made those comments.

Those songs were written for the characters.

The complete track listing, and as I said, Brilliant. Except for that rotten Bee Gees track.

You can watch the originals on YouTube except for "Flowers in the City"
and "The Night was Not" I was unable to locate these songs by title or performer.

You might, notice that many of these songs are about relationships especially the Patti Smith song "Pissing in The River."

When you think about that song and recall the movie it almost makes one misty.

No, it almost made me weep.

Right, the Cars track is not on the LP. I just looked at my copy and sure enough, not there.

I swear this played while the TV's were falling, but I'll have to watch again to make sure.

I like a lot of the songs. My interest in Modern music (with a couple of exceptions), more or less ended in 1982. From 1983 on, it was basically downhill.

If RSO made a proper soundtrack, I would be very interested in spending some of my money.

I guess I am the only one who likes Help Me by Marcy Levy and Robin Gibb.

That song totally sucks ass!

The Robin Gibb song is okay. Pammy looked ready to re-enter the 'straight world', and they needed something to assure us the girls would be okay. It even sounds kind of triumphant until it gets to the bubble-gummy chorus (notice the unlikely sight of the Blondells miming the song as the crowd disperses!)

The song also works because the movie is a period piece now, capturing a time and place now gone, and that kind of music was definitely part of that time.

I absolutely agree. The song makes sense, despite the motivations behind it being added to the movie. And it's actually a decent song, I can't help but sing along when the movie ends.

As for worst cuts, I don't think there are any.

Count me in the camp who likes "Help Me" too. It does sort of stick out like a sore thumb amongst the other tunes, but it fits the end weirdly well. Marcy Levy's voice is awesome, I dunno why she never became more famous (though "Come and Follow Me," her end-credits song from "Short Circuit," is a vastly superior duet).

And "Damn Dog" is without a doubt my favorite song. I could understand not liking "Your Daughter Is One" or "Flowers in the City," but if you don't like "Damn Dog," then you kinda missed the point of the movie.

We can blast Robert Stigwood for destroying the film and imposing a Bee Gees tune - and he sort of deserves it - but we wouldn't have had the movie at all without Robert Stigwood. Double-edged sword. I'm still holding out hope that Alan Moyle's cut has been buried in a vault somewhere (labeled "She Got the Shakes") and is awaiting the day when someone finally discovers it. The workprint of Orson Welles' lost film "Too Much Johnson" has been found, so stranger things have certainly happened.
