Who loves this movie?

OK, so this is the same old question for every movie outthere, but who loves this movie!! Nicky reminds me a lot of a teenage Joan Jett/ Suzi Quatro type in The Runaways. I heard a lot was cut out of this film before it could be released. Too bad! It still a great movie anyway!

Vanity6fan - I'm sure Nicky was inspired by Suzi Quatro. Notice how many times they played Rock Hard in the movie. Suzi is my all-time fave femme rocker. But I also love Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Chrissie Hynde and others.
A lot was cut and that is why you see Nicky with a different hairdo before and after she gets on the subway. I think there was also some hint of sexual tension between the two that was removed. This movie, by the way, is a fave among lesbians. I think it's the warm bond between Nicky and Pammy that gets them.

Boy it would be cool to see a directors cut of this movie.

When I was 13 years old, this movie made such a huge immpression on me that it actually encouraged me to run away from home!! Now, at 35, I love this movie just as much as I did back then. The movie hasn't been available in the UK for quite some time now but I managed to order the AnchorBay disc off the net and it now sits proudly in my dvd collection. And,yes..it would be cool to see a directors cut of the movie. It's such a shame that they can't locate the missing scenes. It would also be cool if the soundtrack was officially released on cd. I used to own the RSO double album. This was one of my favourite soundtracks when I was a teen...aah, memories..

I agree RobertUK. (not about you running away, but the "missing scenes".) PS i still have my RSO double album! =)

It's Cute, How You Think I'm Listening

Yeah, may as well buy it.

I've only seen it once, but I found it surprisingly entertaining. In conclusion, I liked it very much, although it isn't the best movie ever, it is one of the underrated ones.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! I haven't seen it since I was that age. I have the fondest memories of it. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I need to see it again,

I love this movie. I love the two lead characters. It almost makes me wish I were friends with them (and lived in 1980s New York). It's one of those films where the theme is something I have alot of interest in (independent teenagers, punks, living by your own rules).

They're cute girls, they're stylish, fun, and unique. It's just one of those movies the general public doesn't get (the same goes for many of my favorite films). But I oversee its perceived flaws because I'm so interested in the characters and actually really love them together. This is one movie that leaves me thinking in the end, "I want more!"

I am glad they made the new Runaways movie, it had a similar vibe and theme. And I also really enjoy "Ladies And Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains."

Right on! Love every word you said. Have you seen All Over Me?

No. But it looks good from what I've read!
I really love "Me Without You."

On the matter of the film's poor reception...I never let critics judge for me. Critics don't have the same personality and crazy brain that I do. Most of the films I like got terrible reception, but at the same time, the films that usually receive acclaim are ones I find boring or un-relatable. So whatever. Who let's these crusty old guys rate films aimed at teenage girls anyway?

This is one of those New York pride films, a necessity to my collection.

I do! It's one of my favorite movies next to Rocky Horror and Foxes. I hope that they will one day find the missing scenes and make a director's cut. I also hope I can find a fairly-priced DVD or VHS of the movie.

If you've got a problem, blame Stephenie Meyer. That'll clear it up.

Saw it when it was released to the theaters and I still love it!!!

reply

I do. First of all, I'll watch just about anything Tim Curry is in (and I'm as hetrosexual as they come). I just think he's a good actor, LOVE that accent!

Also, this movie has a special significance to me. I was graduating high school (released from Catholic School "prison" as we say), going to start college...not even EIGHTEEN.

Also, the first time I saw it was late at night (after 11:30), on Preview...an early version of paid cable.

In retrospect, oh to go back in time to capture that moment again.

Sometimes, you just want to bond with a female because you have a common connection that you can both relate to (mental "illness", personal issues with "society"). I believe this is the case in the movie, not lesbianism. And since Nicky was "street-wise", and Pammy wasn't, it was very smart that they lived together so they can watch out for each other's a@@.

I love this movie and the soundtrack too. I wish I could get a hold of it. I have seen this at least a dozen times and still hope to catch it again.
