I admit I was always weirded out by that. I've read a few Superman comics, even ones from the silver age and he never had that power to just magically make a giant emblem on his costume appear and hurt his enemies with it. It was just made up for the movie. It's funny how Zod's clothes and body seem to just absorb it. It's funny how it was this movie and not the first that introduced his freeze breath and heat vision.
