Theatrical version was better

Anybody else agree?

I haven't seen the Donner Cut but I don't think I want to. I hate the idea of Superman spinning Earth back in the 2nd one. As bad as it is in the first, at at least it was to save Lois which is more noble. Here, it's just Superman not wanting to take responsibility for choosing Lois over the world. People bring up the memory erasing kiss but Superman still at he end takes responsibility for his action of choosing Lois over the world when he goes to apologize to the president. In Donner's cut, it's just, "I'm going to spin the earth backwards because I don't want to take responsibility for my actions."

And yeah. Apparently Donner wanted the first movie to end with Superman stopping both missiles and it ending with Zod and his lackeys getting freed from the explosion caused by said missiles. But I'm glad that didn't happen cause spinning back time to save the life of the woman you love is way more noble than spinning the earth backwards cause you don't want to take responsibility for your actions.

No. I much prefer the Donner cut.

Why?

The Lester version is way too silly.

reply

Me too, the Lester version is too goofy and too campy.

Well, we can agree to disagree.

I hate the ending of the Donner cut, which has the whole “spinning around the earth and reversing time” thing again which was my least favorite part of the first film. It’s annoying how Superman uses that contrived and ridiculous ability a second time which also basically erases all of the events of the entire movie from actually happening. Seems like an inauspicious cop out to me. But then again, the amnesia kiss in the theatrical version was really stupid too.

I agree. The Donner Cut isn't a complete film.

Just watched the DC for the first time.I liked the less silly tone of the Donner cut, but they are both enjoyable.

Yes, it is a good movie.
