Totally agree with you Janus! I remember watching this film as a kid on HBO in 1980-81, and have never seen it since, although I recall most of the film. Would love a DVD release, but unfortunately, I'm not about to hold my breath; tried that before (namely in anticipation of Michael Mann's The Keep, and still we wait), and although certain favs of mine were finally released on DVD (Looker, Miracle Mile, Vice Squad, the upcoming Alligator), one can only hope that Steel will find its way to disc, soon, even if simply on a bare-bones edition.

We might be a small fan-base, but yes, Steel, like many other memorable gem-films of the seventies, this one deserves a chance to see DVD life.

Alligator is amazing, LOVE that movie, theres been a double disc SE here in the UK for a while, but i know its only just coming out as you say in the US. The commentary with Robert Forster and the director is really good !

Great film! I've got it on 16mm film and on video. What a killer cast!

The best part of the movie is to see the workers "freeze". If you are frozen you are out of the job.

I totally agree! I too remember seeing it soon after we got HBO in 1980. I would love to see it again. It was better than most of the stuff that's out now and considering it had some big-name stars its strange that it's never been made available on DVD.

This needs to be on bluray. Where's the people that put these movie on digital.

Totally agree. Who do we need to contact?

There may be a very real reason this is not out on DVD.

During filming, veteran stuntman A.J. Bakunas playing a high steel worker did a fall from a considerable height onto an air bag. Unfortunately, the bag burst upon impact. Bakunas died shortly thereafter of internal injuries.

It's possible that this film will never be issued on DVD.
