This film is a freak-show

This film has so many extremely unattractive, ugly actors in it, it felt like watching a freak show.
Charlotte Rampling is hideous looking woman. You can easily scare little children with her photo. Damn, what a horrible cast.

Defintely intentional because of the Fellini influence. Fellini was known to view thousands upon thousands of photographs and he would choose people based on appearances. Many characters would seem like they came out of the circus which of course is justified seeing how One of Fellini!s passions was the circus.

So essentially this is a very direct homage to the italian master.

Go look at the photography of Diane Arbus.

Charlotte Rampling wasn't hideous in this film. That unbroken scene near the end was so effective because of her beauty.

"That moonwalk back there was streets ahead buddy."

Charlotte Rampling looks pretty good in this movie, AFAIC.

Charlotte Rampling was considered a great beauty back then. The photography didn't flatter most of the actors, but still she was far from hideous.

Maybe if her boobs were bigger??

Allen was always throwing the term "latent homosexual" into his film conversations, it sounds very annoying today.
