Arkin's Response

I attended a Q&A with Alan Arkin at my school once, and everyone was asking him about the typical stuff, like "Catch 22" "The In-Laws" and his other, popular films. I had seen "Simon" as a kid, and really loved it, so I got up and asked him "How do you feel about Simon? You never mention that movie." And he looked at me oddly for a moment, and then blinked and laughed. "Simon!?" he said "I forgot all about that movie! Holy *beep*

The whole audience laughed. It was pretty great.

Still not clear on whether he felt good or bad about doing SIMON.

I'm hoping he felt good about it. Cause I loved it too.

I hope he felt good about it, too, because I loved that movie, too. I first saw it in 1981 on video (VHS) and I thought it was hilarious. It was such a delightfully weird movie. Now I know why THE DONNY AND MARIE OSMOND SHOW ranked on the top of the ratings while shows like FAME got cancelled. It was just a prank on the public, pulled by that reclusive think-tank.

I really enjoyed it, although admittedly it was from the era when my film criticism always began with "I'd just got back from the pub...."
