Released in 1979

Found an ad and a capsule for this in The Victoria Advocate (Victoria, TX) -- 12/2/1979. There's also an ad in the same publication on 11/24/1979.

So, while I added this info to the Release Dates section, there seems to be no way to edit the year of production.

Okay -- looks like this has been fixed.

Nice news tidbit. But for me, I will always think of this as having a 1980 year attached to it.

Movies didn't launch on 20 gazillion screens simultaneously in those days (especially indies like this), they were regional. The distributor would strike however many prints and send them out to various cities. Once they'd played in those initial cities, the same prints would then be shipped off to a different set of cities. So although it ran in Victoria, TX in Nov./Dec. 1979, it may not have screened in Lubbock until August of '80 (just a for-instance; no idea when it actually screened in Lubbock). This is a major source of confusion and has led to countless inaccurate release dates on imdb. You used to be able to manually change the year, but now it seems to be altered automatically after the release date is corrected.

I remember I was a sophomore in high school when this came out. It was released in New York during the Thanksgiving weekend in 1979. It played at the National Theatre in Times Square. The critic for The New York Times said the film broke at the theater when he was watching the film for his review. Apparently this film was not screened for critics in advance, he had to watch it with the rest of us.

This movie was heavily advertised on New York television before its release.
