Why does IMDB say this movie is 2h 26m long?

It was 1h 58-59m long if you include the credits. Every other site I've visited agrees with me.

There are different cuts. Go to bottom of this sites page and the versions are listed along with run time.

Ah I found out a bit more about that after I made my post.

Stick with the shorter international cut, if you want a tighter more intense film. The US 146min cut is ok if in the mood, it just drags on for too long. Apparently Kubrick preferred his shorter edit after his initial indulgence and conceit in thinking he had created the best horror film ever.

I swear he didn't understand his own movies except while he was making them

Well actually IY, those scenes you mentioned weren't cut. But you do get to miss out on other flat and superfluous scenes, like the interview scene going on and on, and Wendy pushing a food trolley around for longer than she needed to, and Jack bouncing his ball of the walls for longer than needed to be, and Wendy and Danny watching t.v. that added nothing to the proceedings and one of the most un-scariest scenes ever in a horror film was removed, with Wendy running into a room and seeing skeletons covered in cobwebs. Whoooooooo! Even Scooby Doo was scarier.
