What's Not To Like?

I've been bothered by this for 30 years now. I can never understand why "Seems Like Old Times" was a flop at the box office. Maybe for the better word, it was a disappointment. Of course, "Foul Play" got Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn going, and everyone wanted to see them again, including me as a young diehard fan, and still diehard. Then again, Chevy has had much worse movies along the way, including the following Christmas' "Modern Problems," something he and most of us would love to forget. Happily, Chevy, now with white hair and something of a belly, is back on form on TV, making us laugh all over again as if he never stopped doing that with "Community." Goldie is busy playing child psychologist with her own "Hawn Foundation."

Happy 30th Anniversary to "Seems Like Old Times" today. I never forgot the time my entire family and I saw this movie during a Christmas vacation and loved it. I think I'll watch it in its honor when I'm on vacation next week.

This was always a favorite of mine. I wasn't born until '85 but I always loved the older movies. And anything with Chevy Chase was a classic in my book. This was one of my mom's favorite, every time I watch it I think of her. I thought this was hilarious even when I was a young kid. They don't make em like this anymore. I always had an old soul though... Some people just don't get it I guess.

This movie is freaking hilarious. I'm sad to hear that it was a flop. One of Chase's best. Both him and Goldie Hawn were great in this movie.

I wasn't aware that this was a flop. I always loved the movie since I first saw it as a kid

I've always preferred this to Foul Play.

Enjoy them both, but this one was always my favorite of the two.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

I wouldn't say the film was an all out flop but it was a disappointment for sure. It was expected to be one of the big hits for Christmas - particularly because Goldie Hawn had a huge hit that fall with "Private Benjamin."

I am not a big fan of the film as the other posters are. I always thought the film was too sitcom-ie with its set ups and usually obvious resolutions. The film had its moments but I think it was hurt by the fact that a television veteran was the director. A feature film director with comedy experience might have made it (for me anyway) a much better film.

I just think the story is too contrived and unbelievable. Just look at the very last shot of the film. Yes it's sweet and nice but come on! Totally unbelievable.

I concur. I like Foul Play (scared me when I was a kid though), but I love Seems Like Old Times.

Hey Puffball!!! I'm with you, just watched it the other night again and still give it a 10. What's not to like, is right :)))

Well I was one of those people who saw it in the theatre and loved it!

My one thought now is....WOW wouldn't this be considered ractist? and it probably would not get made?

Saw it in theater when I was 7. Loved it then. Love it now.

It's a great movie.

The ONLY slightly bad part was the ending. They could have ended it outside the courthouse. The ending made me give it a 9 instead of a 10.

I remember the day a friend and I watched this in the theater. Typical summer day, we were bored 12 year olds killing an afternoon at the movies. I thought it was fun seeing Chevy Chase playing Chevy Chase and again seeing Goldie Hawn as cute ditz. I'm turning 50 next year and pretty much feel the same way. Not a bad movie in any aspect and I wasn't ware it didn't do well in the box office.
