why, it's 'The Expendables' of its time, isn't it? :)

loads of stars 20 years passed their prime (and then some) coming together in this delightful romp of a flick, playing a bunch of tough guys on a secret against the odds mission for queen & country and what not. it's just staring you in the face right there! I'm sorry if i go against the crowd here, but I absolutely love this gem of a movie :) ===="Never finish what you can't start!" ;)

IMHO it is an amazingly bad film.

Its best shot would have been to be a caricature of the kind of far superior films it apes, but it doesn't even rise to that level.

MANY years ago, long before it was made, and had it been made (just like it is) during that earlier era, it would have been fabulous material for one of those MAD Magazine strips depicting notable films.

I can see it now: the three old guys; the casino with the French-speaking croupier; Moore and the girl; the guy with a mole on his face and the fake phone call; Niven's crazy driving, dodging sacred cows . . .

Sleepwalking from the pedestrian director and from some fine actors. The first I don't care about---and I don't care about this movie---but to see Gregory Peck, Trevor Howard, and David Niven like that is not a pleasant thing. Horrendous dialogue, delivered in the uninspired manner it deserves; stock scenes . . .

Ugh.

(I can't rate it as low as 1 out of 10 since at least nominally, it does pay homage to its cinematic betters and to some brave men.)

(I'll take Cockleshell Heroes over this any day . . .)

More like an expatriate Dad's Army. But yes, I thought it was quite entertaining.🐭
