It came when I was 9 but I don't remember it. Has anyone ever seen it? Sounds like a fun movie to see since I'm a big GWTW fan since age 12.

It was a made for TV movie, part of a 'trilogy of Hollywood lore' called Moviola.
The other two installments were called This Year's Blonde (about the discovery of Marilyn Monroe) and The Silent Lovers (about the relationship of Greta Garbo and John Gilbert)

Lucky you having a copy. Watched this once on German television (dubbed into German) about 15 to 20 years ago. I remember it fondly. Wish they would release it on DVD.

I saw this movie when I was 14 and loved it! I have been a GWTW fan since I was 9 years old so it was fun to see what happened during the making of the movie.

It was a huge success in 1980 and Emmy nominated as the "Best Mini-Series" of the year (although the other two installments were not related beyond stories from the Moviola book.)

I can't believe that it appears to have never been broadcast again anywhere, or even released on the home movie market.
