Just before the head explodes...

Okay. I'm probably crazy.

I remember seeing the promo on TV when Scanners was soon to be released and it consisted mostly of the exploding head sequence. I don't recall if the explosion was shown but my memory of the lead up to it included an optical effect in which Louis Del Grande's head seemed to be elastic and was undulating in a rhythmic fashion.

Several years later, I recall the the same effect upon seeing the film for the first time on cable.

I just watched Scanners on HBO Max and there was no such effect. Louis Del Grande convulses and looks very distressed and...well, you know what happens next.

So I must be imagining that elastic effect. Or am I?

Was there another cut of this scene?

I don't remember the effect you mention, but it could have been added just for the trailer. It's unlikely the exploding head would be in the trailers.

I kind of pictured what you were talking about and I could only narrow it down to the guy in the decompression chamber in License to Kill.
