TROTS7 - See it at least for early performance by David Strathairn

In this film David Strathairn, in what appears to be his first film role ever, plays a character named Ron, a mere gas station attendant, yet he was probably the most likable gas station attendant in a movie ever. (Is there an Academy Award for that? Probably not. Shame! lol)

David Strathairn later went on to play many interesting and compelling characters in film and TV (Joe St. George in "Dolores Claiborne," for example). But it's fun to watch him here in his early days.

I was surprised to see him in this (I'm a big fan). My favorite movie role of his is Rennie in Passion Fish. This movie was good for a first film (John Sayles), if a bit amateurish). But you do get to see David Strathairn skinny-dipping!

You might also wish to check out his performance in another John Sayles film, "Matewan" (1987), another early role for Strathairn. He plays a decidedly much darker and conflicted character than the fun-loving guy we see in TROTS7.

Straithairn also played pitcher Eddie Cicotte in Sayles' "Eight Men Out," 1988 or 89.

Don't forget the alien bounty hunter in Brother From Another Planet. He was the tall one, John Sayles was the short one. Boy did they kick ass.

umm..Sayles is 6'4"...Strathairn is 6'...I suggest you start paying attention.

He's sort of John Sayles alter ego, so expect him to turn up in about every Sayles flick there is. But I concur, he's a truly remarkable actor, and always makes memorable and enjoyable performances. You just can't shake of that gas station attendant from your mind recollecting the memories from seeing this film.
