The tracking shot in the scene when Jake comes out to the title fight against Cerdan is one of my favorite scenes ever.
There's one scene kind of similar in The Wrestler when he's at his new job, walking through, and he's kind of reliving his glory days because you hear the roar of the crowd.

- Both deal with men whose competence in the ring is inversely proportionate to their personal skills as family men.
- Both deal with men facing the consequences of a physical decline in sporting ability, i.e. they're both has beens by the end of the film.
- Both films' characters try to earn a living outside of the sport. One becomes an entertainer, the other works in the deli at a supermarket.
- Both the protagonists fail in their attempt to apologise to a member of their immediate family near the end of the film.
