How is Jake LaMotta still alive?

You keep hearing about these retired NFL players and wrestlers who end up dying young after all the physical punishment they'd endured. Here's a guy who spent a large part of his life also putting his body through hell, and getting punched in the face by some of the top athletes of his day, yet at the time of writing, he's 94-years-old!

Not that I'm complaining or anything; I'm just curious.

"Don't cry, it is to be. In time, I'll take away your miseries and make 'em mine. D'Evils."

I've heard that good people die young but *beep* live forever. Maybe it's true?

In the real fight at the end of the 13th round for an example, he didn't take close as much beating as the movie want us to believe.

It's funny when you compare to the real fight. Not even once is he hanging against the ropes before the ref is stopping the fight.

I think that living to that age is pure luck, even genetics can't fully explain it, as Jake's brother (Joe Pesci's character) died in his 60s and two of Jake's children are already dead.

And Jake was a boozing smoker who seemed to care little of his health.

I know right? Thought the same after checking out his wiki after the movie. Good genes and luck, not other explanation i guess.

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefsī²
