Cathy Moriarty. WOW!

Boy was she fierce in this movie! Considering it was her very first acting job, she more than held her own. Loved her confrontation scenes with De Niro. There she was, only 20 years of age, and not intimidated by one of the greatest actors alive.
It's such a shame her performance isn't talked about as much as the others in the film.
A natural, born talent.

I agree, she did a great a job. Great performance!

"You'll pay? I'm there."

reply

I agree. With minimal dialogue she was fierce!!!

reply

De Niro, to me, gave the greatest acting performance I've ever seen. Bar none.

But, I strongly agree with you about Moriarty. Not only did she more than held her own against the man, but she gave the best female performance (in my opinion) of 1980. And it's comfortably my favorite female performance in a Scorsese film, too.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

reply

She was 18 even when they started filming it. Amazing.

reply

Cathy was the one who made me finish watching the film. Even as Robert and Joe Fan.

reply

I agree. Moriarty was perfect. She held her own and then some. Raw, accented, and beautiful she really helped take this sensational film into the next level. Yes, she was not given the recognition that she deserved.

reply

It's quite interesting to see how closely DeNiro and Moriarty resembled their real life counterparts, if you see late 40's early 50's photographs of Jake, Vicki and family.

reply

An Oscar nom isn't recognition then?

'Ziggy Piggy'

reply

His cock is better than yours too. LOL. She was sensational.

reply

She was sensational in this. Considering this was her first role and started filming this when she was only 18 or so.

Truly remarkable performance and for her to go toe to toe with perhaps the greatest actor to ever grace the big screen. What a fierce performance indeed. And I'd like to add incredibly brave.
