Cute movie, but sad!! **spoilers**

Valerie Bertinelli gives an excellent performance as Kathy Wakeman, a young newlywed whose husband, Chuck, is killed in Vietnam. She resists her family's attempts to help and moves in with another military wife. In the months following Chuck's death, Kathy struggles to find her place in life again. She visits her girlfriends at college, but feels out of place. Her parents never stop trying to help, but Kathy feels they are interfering. Then Sam, a swimming instructor, gives her a job teaching children. Kathy feels guilty for being attracted to Sam, and their budding relationship ends almost before it begins. But it serves as the catalyst that steers Kathy in the right direction.
