Even though it's a totally different story, and I don't accuse it as being a copy, it felt like there was intention to give it the same feel as Carrie. I think if you put Carrie and Happy Birthday to Me into a blender, this is what you would get (although Birthday came after).

Oh I liked this too, though some scenes tended to drag on and I could have done without that (JLC's dance scene, chasing the red dress, last struggle on the dance floor), but beyond that, great for its time.
