question as to Alex's whereabouts

At the time of his sister's accident, where was Alex so that he witnessed the whole thing? I didn't see him anywhere.

reply

He was standing outside. All he witnessed was his sister falling to her death and the kids running away. That's why he didn't know that it was an accident; he thought it was intentional.

Actually, I think he sought revenge because they did not go for help, but ran away. Even one of the kids said they needed to tell someone and then he started to ask what if she was still alive. So in his mind their not helping her is what killed her.

Thanks. So they didn't see him when they ran away?

It is hard to believe that he wouldn't have run right home and told his parents. I don't think murder is the first thing a young child would think of. If he didn't see how it happened, he would assume it was some kind of an accident. The other kids could have just said they were playing a game and she fell. They wouldn't have been charged with anything. I know--then there wouldn't have been a movie.

You forget that they were all kids, and kids often will process traumatic events differently than adults. Alex kept it all inside, and the others panicked and thought they would go to jail.

The real question is why did Alex still remain silent once he was a teenager? That's the part that is harder to believe.

If there was testimony about them taunting the girl before her death or other acts of cruelty, bad behavior towards others, they might have been charged with something.
