#1 in the early 80's military trilogy

All have similar themes - loser joins the army and is changed for the better by basic training -

Private Benjamin (1980) Goldie Hawn
Stripes (1981) Bill Murray
An Officer And A Gentleman (1982) Richard Gere

I enjoy all of these for different reasons. Private Benjamin is a successfull "feminist" comedy. Stripes is a hillarious vehicle for Bill Murray. An Officer And A Gentleman is a terrific drama showcasing the dramatic acting talents of Richard Gere, David Keith and Oscar winner Lou Gosset Jr.

Which is your favorite, and why? Who would you want or not want as a drill Seargent - Sgt. Hulka (Warren Oates) or Lou Gossest Jr. ?

I think I'd have to pick stripes out of that group. That's one of my alltime favorites. I love bill murray and I love the comedy in it. I don't think I'd want Sgt. Hulka as a drill sgt. though. But hey, they're not supposed to be nice people. I do think both stripes and private benjamin kinda go off track towards the end of the movie and go in directions that I don't think were the greatest, but as a whole, both great.

Never saw AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMEN, but I love STRIPES much more than PRIVATE BENJAMIN.

The best film of the three is An Officer and a Gentleman. It takes a dramatic look at people from separate backgrounds and shows the story of them getting together.

My favorite of the three would be Stripes. I watch that one more often than any of the others. It's completely unrealistic, but funny and entertaining. The deleted scenes are great, too.

I like Private Benjamin, but by the end of the movie. She's not even in the Army any more.
