One of the Greatest Parodies Ever.

"Porklips Now" is just awe-inspiring. Fosselius's attention to detail here is superb and the film mixes elements of silliness and smart humor. Highly recommended for fans of Apocalpyse Now and Hearts of Darkness.

Why doesn't this parody get the release it deserves on DVD, or at least on the recently-released Apocalypse Now Blu-ray box set? lol.

Highly recommended for fans of Apocalypse Now? I really don't think you understand..... from what I've seen of Porklips Now, I don't think this was an "affectionate parody"... if you've read otherwise, I'd like to see anything from the filmmakers saying it was and I'd quite politely say I was wrong. But I get the feeling from watching it that they thought AP was an incredibly boring and bloated piece of crap like I do.

I decided to come back to this post after re-watching, and yes, knowing what I know about Hearts of Darkness and the production of the film, yes, I think this is a lot harsher on Coppola and Brando than what I originally posted in 2010. In fact, to think I even suggested it be released on the same Blu-ray set is kinda ludicrous in its own right because of that. The whole bit about "method acting" and the 2 or 3 Coppola bits say a lot.

The fact this movie predates the release of Hearts of Darkness by over a decade is pretty impressive considering all the inside jokes it made (which were probably well known among Hollywood people at that time and not necessarily the general public who weren't in the know).

And yes, Apocalypse Now is very long-winded. Even though I enjoy the film, I actually appreciate that Foss was willing to take Coppola to task over the overblown production and Brando for his barely-there performance. The references to the Godfather films and On The Waterfront were great and I still stand by the great amount of attention to detail Foss put in. Still my favorite film parody.

"Porklips Now" is absolutely my favorite parody. I first saw it back in the 80s, and have loved it since then. The lead actor is perfect for the Martin Sheen character.

As previously mentioned, the detailing is amazing too. from the opening scene, with that song "This is the End", to so many other great scenes, its just great.

This short film even manages to captures that sort of ominous atmosphere of Apocalypse Now. I highly recommend this classic short.
