I must've been horribly disappointed in 1980

A good portion of the 2nd half of the 70s was all about Benji for me. I don't remember being horribly disappointed with Heavenly Dog, but I must have been. That, or by 1980 I was about over it and too old to be terribly affected by this. But that doesn't excuse what a horrible movie this is. I don't understand why Joe Camp, who was really talented as a filmmaker, would so drastically change what Benji is, and make this garbage. Another grand adventure like FTLOB is what we all wanted. Not this. And for a man so devoted to family friendly fare, this movie...wow. Language (sh**, a**hole) and penis and boob jokes. What the hell? I don't understand what Camp was thinking. I can only imagine the parents taking their kids to a "Benji" movie, and hearing "a**hole". Things are different nowadays, but in 1980 before PG-13 and different standards for bad words, this must've been a bit of a shock to parents. This movie is nothing short of one of the biggest embarrassments to Hollywood, to Chevy Chase...what a ruined op for a continued franchise. And this from a huge fan of Benji and FTLOB. Deplorable.
