At Least This Bomb . . .

. . . has Don in it. Even with the character assassination of Max, this movie's still going to be better than the horrible "bomb" about to be released on 6/20/08. Don hated "The Nude Bomb", but he must be one POed angel in Heaven about the new one.

And it's gotten some good reviews.

The 2008 movie was AWFUL.

I thought it was dreaful. The characters didn't even resemble the originals. I mean, why did they even call the villian "Siegfried"? He wasn't anything like Bernie Kopell's character. For that matter, none of them were except for 13, and he was in it for about 10 seconds. I wonder if the writers even watched the original series before writing the film. "The Nude Bomb" was terrible too... "Get Smart, Again" was the only one that is worth watching besides the original series! That's my opinion anyway.

In some sort of effort to make this turkey up to date, in a very early scene where they are riding in a car, a passing motorist blows his horn at them. The chief (played by Dana Elcar - a very fine actor, but not Edward Platt) sticks his head out of the window and shouts "Blow it out your ass!!!" This is the chief of Control? The forces of goodness and niceness talking like that. That alone did it for me. You could tell even then that this movie would certainly live up to the third word in its title.

reply

It's not the Chief who sticks his head out of the window and shouts, but the President, played by Thomas Hill. (Please apologize to the Chief.)

JoJo- Epic Fail.

I like The Nude Bomb for what it is, but I love the 2008 movie (which made millions at the box office, and was popular) just as much.

At least the 2008 movie had Max, 99, the Chief, KAOS, and was a great reverent update of the characters and situations without being a complete nostalgic copy (Max isn't as bumbling as before, which is a relief, and his messing up is more nuanced and subtle than the obvious pratfalls of the original series:Max's reporting on KAOS is thought to be wrong, but in reality was a frame-up by the KAOS double agent played by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnston ) Both can co-exist, except that only a few people like The Nude Bomb, while everybody loves the 2008 film.

"while everybody loves the 2008 film."

Really? Is that why there are so many fans of the original series who absolutely loathe the 2008 film?

reply

Said fans are in the minority now (I'm guessing about 22,000 fans in the USA are left) and how they feel means nothing to the people who own the property now. If they wish to be as obdurate as the Trek fans about the 2009 Star Trek film, then they will be just as disregarded as older Trek fans are about the 2009 Star Trek film-even worse, they'll be considered like this: http://leegoldberg.typepad.com/a_writers_life/2004/09/clueless_morons. html

It's time for you and the other obdurate Get Smart fans to deal with reality and stop assuming that a verbatim version of the old series would have succeeded at the box office.

Lol, you pompous idiot.

The 2008 reboot paid homage to the orignal very nicely, while being engaging.

A relative even thought Steve Carrell did a better job, and she's never seen any of Steve's other movies.
