Now known as 'The Return of Maxwell Smart'

I just saw that HBO is broadcasting this movie under the name "The Return of Maxwell Smart". Has PC sunk to this level?

Who is PC?

reply

PC = "Political Correctness."

This movie was first re-titled The Return of Maxwell Smart when it was first broadcast on NBC in May of 1982. The DVD will have the original title.
In a recent airing on HBO Family, the title card displayed by HBO read The Return of Maxwell Smart, with The Nude Bomb displayed under that in parentheses. I guess there's no "nudity" on the HBO Family channel.

BRING OUT SEASON THREE OF THE GREAT ONCE AND AGAIN ON DVD!

I think it's less a matter of PC and more of a matter of making sure that it is known that this is a movie based on Get Smart when you are flipping across the cable guide on your cable system or Tivo.

The movie itself, as recently shown on HBO and Cinemax, is totally unchanged and still bears "The Nude Bomb" title.

That's weird... I just caught it on Cinemax a week ago and it was titled "The Return of Maxwell Smart". You've got a good point about re-labeling to ensure that people link it with Get Smart. (I know I probably would've skipped right passed it if they hadn't.)

That's funny, maybe they are showing 2 versions. The version on my DVR is titled "The Nude Bomb" in the movie itself.

There was no nudity in this film either.

Actually there is a little nudity, at least in the version on the DVD. There's a sequence where one of the bombs lands on a huddling football team and their bare buttocks are shown.

LOL!!

HBO, land o' "True Blood" and "Game of Thrones" and the rest...

reply

Nope.

"The Return of Maxwell Smart" was the edited version made for TV about 30 years ago, since they couldn't air the whole thing given the "PC standards" of the time...
