Why the title change?

I bought a VHS of this film from a video store for 99 cents under the title "Stage Fright." During the opening credits, it's obvious they changed the name because "Stage Fright" is in a completely different font. Does anyone know why it was changed from "Nightmares"?

This film was pointless and forgettable in every way, but the acting was slightly better than most horror films.

It's confusing because both titles are shared by two more well known horror films, Nightmares from 1983 and Stage Fright from 1987. So every time I talk about this movie with other horror fans, they always think I'm talking about those other two and have usually never heard of this obscure gem.

As for why they changed the title, I have no idea. I'm not even sure which title accompanied the original release. I suspect it has something to do with them not wanting it to be confused with one of the others, but both of them came out later so who knows.
