BRONX : Nowhere you wanna be!
Abusive cops...hot headed puerto ricans..car strippin' blacks... probably the only movie that make New York look worse is exterminator or maniac (Joe spinnell) close second The Seven-Ups

The 70s/80's New York era is explored in detail in the documentary feature 42nd Street Memories. It's a great social history documentary about the Grindhouse venues and porno culture of 42nd Street and Times Square; with some amazing archive footage and retrospective interviews with people who lived, loved, worked, imbibed, shot up, pulled tricks, pimped or hustled there during those sleazy, wild, pre-cleanup years. The Exterminator and Maniac are both referenced, as well as many other Grindhouse exploitation favorites of that era.

If you want a genre picture which truly made New York look like a sordid hell on earth, you can't sink any lower than Lucio Fulci's sicko exploitation sleaze classic The New York Ripper (1982). Only an Italian exploitation maestro could have come up with such a negative (and still deeply shocking and unpleasant) vision of the Big Apple and its decadent citizens. Even the cop 'hero' is a selfish corrupted sicko, even less sympathetically portrayed than the demented serial killer he is hunting down.

It's the type of politically incorrect, illiberal, misogynist, misanthropic New York exploitation movie that simply doesn't get made these days.
