Get more Motel Hell (remake) news

It was announced today that MGM is remaking the '80s horror comedy Hotel Hell and aiming to get it in theaters by December 7th, 2007. In the original Farmer Vincent kidnaps unsuspecting travellers and is burying them in his garden. Unfortunately for his victims, they are not dead. He feeds his victims to prepare them for his roadside stand. His motto is: It takes all kinds of critters...to make Farmer Vincents fritters. The movie is gory, but is also a parody of slasher movies like Last House on the Left.

i cant wait to see what they do with this. i'm a big fan of the original but it definately could use some updating as long as they do it right and dont go the pg-13 route. but with a story like this i think it would be impossible to go pg-13 anyways.

Can't Hollywoood come up with any original ideas for horror films anymore? I'm sick of all these remakes. You just know they're going to ruin a great film like Motel Hell.

A remake? Blasphemy is more like it! When is Hollywood going to wake up and realize that all remakes do is replace the memory of the original genius with poorly made crap.

My teenage sister thought the Fog remake was the original until I showed her the Carpenter's original. The same thing's going to happen this time.

reply

Great post cursor, I agree with you. These remakes will probably replace the originals for this generation, which is completely unfair. I am however, going to check out the Halloween remake. I was opposed to it until I found out Rob Zombie will be directing. He's one of the few people out there who can actually make a horror film nowadays.

Hollywood has nobody to blame but themselves with their remakes. What a bunch of nuts!

People should need a special licence to make Horror flicks now...

and Rob Zombie should direct this movie.

reply

Rob Zombie should never do another remake again.

reply

Wow, another cheap remake. I'll pass.

Is this still happening? Is Randy Travis REALLY going to play Farmer Vincent? Seriously, why must EVERYTHING get remade? The one and only remake I can think of that I actually thought was just as good as the original was The Manchurian Candidate, and that wasn't a horror film.

reply

i curse anyone who wants to remake this..

reply

I will say this. Randy Travis is one creepy looking and sounding guy.

But *beep* a Motel Hell remake.

reply

I just watched the original tonight and I'd only support a remake if they let me do it. I'd start by casting as such:

Jeff Fahey (Planet Terror, Lost, Machete) as Farmer Vincent
Becky Thyre (Mr. Show, Weeds) as Ida Smith
Leelee Sobieski (Deep Impact, Joy Ride) as Terry
Edward Norton (Fight Club, American History X) as Sheriff Bruce Smith
For the ill-fated band, I'd have Polkadot Cadaver play as themselves.

If Randy Travis is cast as Farmer Vincent and is as creepy as you say they are missing one element that made the original movie work: Farmer Vincent is likable.

You wouldn't suspect him of anything. He is charming. He feels he is actually helping humanity. And you end up liking him in spite of the terrible things he does.

DO NOT remake this movie!!

Strange...

Somehow I always figured Lionsgate would be behind this one. I mean, they're behind every sub-par reboot of campy 80's slasher films, aren't they?

Then again, they *are* angling to merge with MGM, so maybe they'll get to make it after all.

Save me the job of doing it :)
