what was up with blade's character?

i don't recall him saying a word, and yet it's so hilarious when the rest of the blue team tries to get him to pass through the x-ray machine at the airport and he just shakes his head slowly...

anyways, he did seem out of place, considering the blue team was comprised of snotty rich kids. maybe he was one of those privileged suburban types who always put on a tough front (i.e., a wannabe gansta)?

reply

Maybe they didn't want him to be as idiotic as the other members of the Blue Team.

Pretty sure Blade was their dope connection.

Actually, it was a metal detector

I found it kind of ironic that he had no lines in the movie, yet has one of the longest IMDb resumes of the entire cast!

reply

Hahaha. It's funny you mention that because in the first scene that MJF is in, I keep waiting for him to say something but he doesn't. Luckily, he actually has lines.

Hahahaha, yeah, I looked him up, too.

Love his brief smile at the end, after poor Lucille gets hit with the plate of food!

I know this is a bit late ~ but most movies (especially low budget) try to avoid paying too much for an actors part. So for him to not have any lines means he gets paid just for appearance only unlike that of MJF's character who had lines and most likely was paid more than this actor.

Agreed he did seem out of place ~ because if you look at it you had
Harold ~ the obviously rich kid of the bunch
Lucille ~ his gf
Melio and Barf ~ his friends ... although looking at certain scenes it could be assumed only Barf was Harolds friend and Melio was just there with his brother

Then there is Blade (?) Whom as you stated could be assumed as a wannabe bad boy ... since we never seen him threatening anyone (unlike that of Harold) and perhaps is a student of shop (due to his nature to carrying knife).

I always got the idea that the only reason Harold had friends was because he had money. I just figured that Blade was one of his bought friends.

Actually during Scott's "interrogation" scene in the back of the van, Blade has his knife out in a threatening way. Whether or not he would actually use it, who knows. It doesn't seem like he cared about the Game one way or the other-- in fact it's possible that he had the least motivation of any character to win.

One of my favorite Blade scenes is when Barf and Melio are in the van, trying to fix the marshmallowed computer. Blade is using his switchblade to scrape the cream out of the Oreos!

reply

Sometimes the most obvious reason is obvious.

His nickname is Blade, he wouldn't go through the metal detector because he had a knife(blade) on him.
