Total happenstance that I checked TCM's listing a couple days ago and saw it was gonna air. Figured it'd be an old transfer but I'm happy to report it's HD and widescreen. There's a lot of grain and the picture's kind of soft, but I'd attribute that to the crummy late '70s film stock. It's really well-framed and there are lots of details I've never noticed before. We need a special edition blu-ray... though I'm not holding my breath for Disney to release it themselves.

other than the amusing intros of actors like Michael J Fox and Pee Wee Herman and the early 80's aesthetic I couldn't get through it.

This'll hurt him more than me!

Actually I think that the print quality is somewhat better on the DVD than the one they showed on TCM last week was. This movie though definitely needs a widescreen release on, preferably, Blu-Ray. But who knows when or if such a version will ever come around. So it's just best I think to either hang on to the only current DVD release that the movie's been given thus far, or to simply save the version from TCM on your DVR; whatever's your preference.
