The car lot where he collects his car is on west hill in Wandsworth next to the fire station

Really? I'll have to check this out. How do you know it was filmed there?

How about these other locations?

1. The opening title scene from the prison.

2. McVicar's girlfriend's flat (seen at the very beginning in a flashback, and towards the end)

3. The park/river where he escapes at night (I'm guessing its the Thames, not too far from the Maidenhead railway bridge scene)

4. The bank robbery

5. Georgina Hale's house

6. The bar where Billy Murray meets Ian Hendry

reply

The prison he is in is Frankland in Durham.

I don't believe it was filmed there though. I think it was somewhere in Ireland.
It says it on the end credits, and also if you watch the opening convoy sequence closely, you can see a few Ireland reg plates.

He was actually in Durham prison, not Frankland which is a couple of miles from Durham and wasnt opened until the early eighties after Mc Vicar was released.

The opening scenes are all based in Dublin, the prison entrance is the front of Moutjoy prison, when he is in the car that is the Dublin mountains coming from the Tallaght end, just as he is walking into the new prison just after his transfer that is the side leading from Mountjoy to the borstal St Patrick's.
