Outstanding!

This movie should be used as a class in teaching Making A Good TV Movie 101.
The script and the whole story gels so well together and follows very closely what we knew of MM's life at that time in 1980. And Catherine Hicks is outstanding! No, her face doesn't look much like MM's but at times she is almost channeling her! She BECOMES MM! And her body is a lot like the real MM's. This movie and particularly Hicks are virtually perfect! I hadn't seen this since I was a kid in 1980 and a wonderful friend made me a copy and I LOVE it!

I agree!
I think Catherine Hicks's portrayal is AMAZING.
I can't see how it could be topped by anyone, ever.

I agree. I was absoluteley awed by the way she captured and embodied the aura of Marilyn. I would close my eyes and listen to her voice and could swear I was listening to the real Marilyn. It wasn't over the top like just about every other Marilyn impersonation has been done (i.e. Mira Sorvino). And I'm not knocking Mira Sorvino. I think she's an excellent actress. It's just that tough to do a good impersonation of Marilyn. And I have to disagree with hilljayne on one point. I think she does look somewhat like Marilyn. At least the closest of all the impersonators.

I liked it when I saw it back then and I wish it would be re-run, there are so many channels now.

Was the singing dubbed? I just watched a clip on YouTube and it appeared to be.

___Arguably the best bio ever done on Monroe. Hicks is mesmerizing as MM. The timeline is spot on, and the clothes, hair are done to an accurate T. It was long for a TV film, still hard to get a lot of facts in despite Monroe's short life. I didn't like Hicks mincing steps and baby doll behavior, at times these were very annoying. The resl Marilyn saved that silliness for the screen, or public image. In real life, Monroe was much more down to earth, and real. Never the less, still the best bio, so far.
