is this version uncut?

i just recently bought a copy off ebay the guy sais the running time is 85 mins long and it is on the Elephant Video label can annyone gimme any advice as to whether this version is uncut cheeers...

reply

Not quite sure if it's cut, but my copy, from Shriek Show/Media Blasters, runs just over 90 minutes. If your copy contains the animal cruelty scenes I would assume that its uncut.

The Elephant video release is the cut version which was given an X cert for theatrical distribution. This version has lost over 6 minutes. The Vipco DVD version is the same cut and having seen it can say there is quite alot missing. You can get uncut DVDs on region 1 from Shriek Show/Media Blasters and if you cant play region 1 the Dutch version from EC Entertainment is also worth having. Both are in widescreen but the region 1 DVD has more extras.

All the animal crelty is cut you will be pleased to know but also alot of the gore is also cut.I'm sure your aware that Eaten Alive is made up of lots of other 70's cannibal flicks like Last Cannibal World,Mountain of the Cannibal God and Deep River Savages with footage taken directly from these with new footage added to make a new movie. So the scenes cut include the death of Me Me Lai from Last Cannibal World, the river side massacre of the native girl from Deep River Savages and the castration scene from Mountain of the Cannibal God(which is present in Vipco's release of that film!!)to name but a few.Vipco's DVD of Eaten Alive is cut so badly that the film doesent flow and at times it can be confusing.I would avoid this if you want to see the movie and endure the cruelty of the uncut versions. There is'nt as much as in some of the other cannibal movies.

My Shriek Show version says 87 minutes on the back of the dvd, although I've never watched it yet.

"Lookie! Built you a little fry house!''

reply

The Shriek Show DVD is uncut as is the Dutch release from EC Entertainment.

I also own the Shriek Show version, and it says on the back that it's 87 minutes. In reality, however, this Shriek Show version ran 92 minutes, and included several scenes of animal cruelty and mutilation. Therefore, I'm assuming my version is uncut.

yeah The Elephant video release is the cut version i bought it from a pound shop thinking it was a full version (some of the pound shop films are uncut versions of some cut films ) but this was the cinema version that was cut, i read some films were copys of some pre cert videos or lazer discs by mistake and didnt put them to the bbfc thinking they were already done MIA video done that with night of the living dead putting an uncut print out (it was cut until then)

Also -Don't get fooled by the Scandinavian "Another World Ent." release, it's missing some gore and dialog even though it claims to be uncut on the box. And no, I don't think the film will ever get an Uncut certificate version granted in the UK, as a complete print is just so much curtailed by animal cruelty, cannibalism, sex - etc. Lenzi's other "Cannibal Ferox" and "Man From Deep River" (now on UK blu ray) are still heavily censored. The BBFC have never really been nice to Lenzi with his cannibal "trilogy"..

"That's it. It bit into his arm-pit. Like It wanted to eat him, man. Like It wanted to eat his heart."
