Godfather references (spoiler ahead)

Just finished watching this. Is it me or is the Godfather referenced a few times?

The lines about pushing dope at schools, to the children.

The single day wipe out of the other Dons.

Even Fabio Frizzi's soundtrack has a few traces of Nino Rota in it.

Still, what a fun film.

it definitely borrowed a lot from the Godfather. it was also definitely awesome.

from his interviews on the cat in the brain dvd, i got the impression that fulci (and most of his contemporaries) took the idea of "genre" pretty seriously. he spends a lot of time in these interviews explaining how a "thriller" is different from a "horror" film. i think the implication is that he (and contemporaries) usually tried to sell generic, marketable ideas to their producers. accordingly, i think they were frequently bound to an existing genre/framework.
