The only good Jesse James films are...
...The Long Riders," "The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid" and "The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James."
I'm a big fan of westerns and I've seen nearly all the classic color westerns. I've followed the Jesse James legend ever since I first watched The Long Riders on cable. I always get excited when a Jesse James film comes out, but I'm always disappointed. The three that I mentioned are the only good ones.
I've seen some other ones. "Jesse James," with Tyrone Power is just too old. "Frank and Jesse" had potential, but the historical inaccuracies ruined it. "American Outlaws" was a pointless comic book. It had a good cast, but they went to waste. The Brad Pitt film was overly long, depressing and boooooorrrrrring. Pitt walked around the film like he was taking sedatives. I really wanted to like all those films, but they were lacking.
I like it when they stick with the true story as much as possible. I'd like to see a "Young Guns" type of movie made about the James-Younger gang. I thought that was going to be American Outlaws, but I got gonged.
I don't think a definitive Jesse James movie has been made. Maybe just watch the first three that I listed. I haven't seen "Cole Younger and The Black Train," yet. The reviews certainly aren't good.
Have I missed any?
