Great news, it is on DVD! Just search any Italian DVD website (such as internetbookshop.it or dvd.it) under "piccolo lord".

I didn't think that was the same version (there seems to be a recent Italian
remake or something, according to IMDb).

I remember the 1980 TV version (I didn't have a VCR then) (sigh).

Best TV/movie version ever done so far, probably. ^_^

This is the same 1980 version; you have to have an all-region DVD player to play it since it's Region 2. It's produced in Italy and has Italian menus, but there is a choice of English or Italian for languages, and it's a very good looking DVD. The film is a favorite of ours and we bought this version.
