DRUBICK?

What is that word that Krista Erriksen says at the end that makes Cynthia Nixon punch her. It sounds like "positively drubick" but that's not English.

reply

I'm not sure what the word was myself, but I think it started with a "T", "Trubeck" is how I heard it. I have no idea what she said though.

reply

The phrase is "positively cherubic", defined as

A representation of a small angel, portrayed as a child with a chubby rosy face.
A person, especially a child, with an innocent or chubby face.

Just watched it this past weekend with my daughter for her first time. Still stands up after all this time This particular scene was one of my daughter's favorites!

reply

Thanks for the info, eeeema, but why would that make Nixon punch her and call her a fraud? I've been waiting for a DVD release just to use the subtitle button for this one word.

reply

I've got the novelization from years ago, which are usually based on screenplays anyway. I'll look it up and see if that line is in the book and let you know.

reply

Yes I looked that part up in the LITTLE DARLINGS book and Cinder most certainly DOES say "cherubic". Must have been she just said it in an odd way and it stayed in the film. Hmph.

reply

My guess is that she was using the word cherubic as an insult; it's usually used to describe children and they all thought they were way beyond that. I don't know why Nixon called her a fraud unless she just meant she was fake about being friends with anyone and just making the girls turn against each other.

reply

She says positively cherubic (I don't know why it sets her off, it's not that bad of an insult!)

reply

remember being 13 or 14? you thought you were on the verge of something a great and should be considered a woman!! hahaa I used to get mad when someone called me a kid then too. I think it's the fact that it's Cinder that says it. She thinks she is so much better then everyone and Sunshine just had enough. Everytime I see it I always give a "right on" rofl

Yes, she says "cherubic", but in a condescending way, as if they're innocent little kids, and she's the only adult (and, of course, she's not an adult, and maybe that's why Sunshine calls her a fraud). Also, Cinder had acted buddy-buddy with those girls who, out of fear of embarrassment, went along with Cinder's whims without admitting that they were virgins. When Cinder found out the truth, she showed her true colors.)

I always had the feeling that Cinder was seeing an older guy, who she felt she had to accommodate sexually in order to keep him. I thought that maybe she was uncomfortable with that, and so she bullied any girl who was unlucky enough to be caught admitting to not being sexually active yet.)

I love the expression that develops on Sunshine's face just before she hauls off and belts Cinder. That was priceless. LOL, Miranda was always my favorite on SATC.

I don't hear "cherubic" at all, I hear "drubick" which is posssibly long lost slang for old-fashioned nerd.

I also agree with someone here who says Nixon's punch is absolutely lame - like a twig poking someone in the eye. It worked that it was she who punched her, just lacking in believability the way she did it.

reply

Well, sorry that you don't hear "cherubic", but that's what it is. No such word as "drubick", period. Long-lost slang? Nope.

reply

watch the "punch" again - you hear the sound effect "pow" before she takes the swing!

reply

Well, cherubic it is. And thanks for the research. That's been nagging at me for 30 years.

reply

OK, Having just read this. I pulled out my dvd & watched this scene.Even though the actress pronounces it strangly, she does indeed say, I quote"You're all absolutly cherubic"

reply

Hmmm cherubic - that's just kinda of a strange piece of dialog. To happen at such a key point in the film. Oh well, I guess it had people talking, wondering what the heck she said.

reply

It's years later and something just occurred to me. Krista says "cherubic" and Cynthia calls her a fraud because even though Krista claims to be a woman of the world and very intelligent, she has no idea what the word "cherubic" means, and this insults Cynthia's intelligence.

reply

eeeema is absolutely right - the word Krista Errickson said in that scene was indeed "cherubic." I read somewhere that when they dubbed her lines for that scene, the word became garbled on the soundtrack - hence the non-existent word "drubick" we all heard.

reply

Cherubic - "cherry-like".
