I noticed there wasn't any billing as to who did the voice for the alien in the "Junque" shop. To me it sounded like Roddy McDowell.

I love that you wrote the alien's name here. I don't know who did the voice, though.

Isn't the alien's name E'nememen Asfah?

reply

I recall the lead character saying its name, just unsure of its spelling.

reply

Correct; according to the book, the alien's name is E'nememen Asfah. In the original movie, Bruce Davison pronounced that "Emenemen Asfah", however. Probably easier to say it that way.

It struck me as being Bruce Davidson's voice, modulated.

That would make sense, since the aliens originated wholly out of George's subconscious mind, and later became the voice of his inner wisdom, teaching profundity to his conscious mind.

Did you notice the items in the shop? They were all orphaned artifacts from the original 'world before April,' which had no point of reference for anyone except George. 'Nixon' campaign buttons, 'Beatles' memorabilia (which makes the change in the song all the more apparent ), etc.

Great point! I never noticed that because the book was written in the 1970s so it seemed to make sense at the time. Heather at least knew the song after he recovered her, didn't she? Still, it's an interesting thought.

Isn't Davison's intonation a little too flat for He Whose Name I Won't Attempt to Spell? He's a talented actor but I've only ever heard him sound really, really mid-Atlantic. (And if the guy's from Wisconsin or Iowa or somewhere, mea culpa...I'm too lazy to look it up tonight).
