How do you pronounce the title?

Since I'm American I am probably butchering the name of the title. Could someone please give me a proper pronunciation. Thank you.

Be true today- The Beatles

Kah-gay-moo-sha

reply

Not quite. The second syllable is pronounced "geh." So it's: Kah-geh-moo-sha.

kang-eh-moo-sha/sya.

"g" inside a japanese word is pronounced "ng".

The last syllable is kind of half way between sya and sha. The "sh" sound has the tongue closer to the teeth (giving it a thinner sound) than in English, where the tongue is further back.

Wow, I've actually been pronouncing it correctly.

pmurray41 is correct.

Well, Japanese is my first language and I tend to pronounce it slightly differently.

You probably know 'old' and 'new' Japanese dialects differ mainly in pronunciation, so the title breaks down like this:

kah-gai-moo-sha

Pronounced correctly, the second syllable should rhyme with the word 'hi.'

In old Japanese, you're right it would be more of a 'geh' sound, but to Japanese audiences that sounds formal and stiff. Of course, all thrown together the difference is almost imperceptible unless you're a native Japanese speaker.

Complete nonsense. I wonder how many people have been misinformed by this terrible post over the last 10 years.

I just thought that. What is that person talking about? Lol

Colonel you have the right pronounciation. "G" in Japanese is not pronounced as "ng" as stated above. (I am Japanese). If written out in a phonetic spelling I think your "Kah-geh-moo-sha" is accurate, though I'd stress that the "moo" shouldn't be exaggerated and the vowels are pronounced softly. So don't pronounce it like a mooing cow, but more along the line of "a moot point." Kage by the way means shadow, as in "hikari to kage" (light and shadow)

One could always check out how it is pronounced in the movie, provided that one has the DVD that is.

All you have to do is watch the trailer to hear it pronounced. No matter how you say the title, it's a great movie.
