Why isn't this film more widely appreciated?

The cast and crew had many members that were already famous and about to get great critical acclaim, ie in Jean de Florette, Manon des Sources, Le Dernier Metro, Indochine, Cyrano de Bergerac and Greencard, apart from previous successes like Un Homme et Une Femme and Parapluies de Cherbourg. The film itself is beautiful, even if the plot is a little inconsequential, the acting is excellent and the cinematography delightful.
So why is it so underrated and unavailable generally one video and DVD?
