I think I remember this movie. Is there a scene....

Is there a scene where someone has their eyes forced open with toothpicks?

I have a vivid memory of this scene, but for years have been trying to figure out what movie it was from.

Is this it?

reply

Yes, this is the movie. Michael Caine's son is captured by pirates. They use the toothpicks as part of thier brainwashing to turn him against his father.

reply

Thx! That's literally about 10 years I've been wondering what movie it was from.

I had the same scene in my head for about the same length of time before finally finding out where it was from. That part and when Micheal Caine was stuck up on the mast and his son was given the pistol to shoot him down. Finally found out what movie it was from.

Actually, the guy that Justin Maynard shoots down from the mast was a member of the victim's crew during the first big pirate attack scene. David Warner's character was preening Michael Caine's son into the next great bloodline of pirates. Blair Maynard (Michael Caine) was observing this from on deck.

There is however more than one scene when Justin points a gun at his father, (***SPOILER*** though he never does kill him.) One memorable scene is when he shoots some sort of a melon out of his father's hands.

Funny, I remember the exact same scene from when I was a kid. I guess they were doing something right!

WOW! No lie. I had the same exact memory.(A matter of fact the only memory i have of this movie.) The only reason I remembered the name is cause I called it Is-land.

I remember this movie from watching over and over around 1981 on The Movie Channel and the toothpicks holding open the kids eyes always stuck in my head (I was 11 at the time) anyone know what happened to the kid? I tried doing a search on him and came up empty???

reply

I saw it on an airplane when I was a child and I remember the same scene. I also remember the whole movie being pretty good.

reply

LOL, That's pretty funny that you saw this on an airplane. Doesn't the plane Michael Caine and his son charter crash and/or explode?

reply

Probably not in the airline version. They probably re-edited it into an exploding train trip.

Best part of the movie, easily.
