Are there even more cut gore scenes out there somewhere?

I've own the German DVD and have seen the American "City of the Walking dead" release, I get the impression that there is still some gore cut from them both. For instance when the guard in the hospital gets his head chopped off and the zombie drinks his blood, and the scene where the soldier sent to rescue the general's daughter and son-in-law gets killed and they rip open his shirt seem awefully abrupt, like they've been significantly edited down. Anyone know? If so I'd I've love for a COMPLETELY uncut version to turn up some day.

yeah I noticed the guard in the hospital scene too. It's DEFINITELY cut, because the music even jumps too. Also listen to Laura Trotter's scream... it suddenly cuts out there too. If there is any version with that scene intact, it'd be the Japanese version... but I'm pretty sure even that is missing that shot.

Having seen the original Italian version of the film, the German, and the International (as Nightmare City) and cut (as City of the Living Dead) Enlglish language versions, I can say that the Anchor Bay DVD is not cut. Lenzi didn't have the budget for things like decapitations and disembowlings for the film, hence the sudden cuts in those two scenes.

Or they filmed an effects shot that was even more laughable than the ones you see in the film, so it got taken out prior to release. I love the film for what it is, but the effects are some of the cheapest and unconvincing in the genre.

Good point, even a big budget masterpiece like John Carpenter's "The Thing" had a few special effects scenes dropped because they were in the end deemed too cheesy, still it would be nice to see them at least as an extra on the DVD.

Anchor Bay also touted their Hell Of The Living Dead as released for the first time uncut. But, save for the widescreen and cleaned up print, which you can FINALLY see what's going on, it's as uncut as the Night Of The Zombies Vestron Home Video print, which was the same as the Creature Features print, which was used for the Cydonia DVD release. Other than the widescreen and clean up, the only difference is the title card, and a few extra notes of music in the closing credits.

The copy of Nightmare City that appears on the Anchor Bay DVD is the same I've always seen. On the German DVD (Laser Paradise?) Grossgrangrif Der Zombies from about 1999, the New Star City Of The Walking Dead VHS from 1988, and Continental's VHS release under the City title were all the same content, just presented differently. e.g. Nightmare City was letterboxed and cleaned up, the German DVD apparently, which I believe had the Nightmare City title card, used a Japanese print with subtitles burned in to the original print, and the two VHS releases were the same full screen print. Even down to the title screen with the R rating on it. Yes, apparently, this uncut movie was just rated R. :) There has been lots of talk about edited and unedited versions, but, all versions I've seen since about 1987 were the same. So, it highly unlike all of these were cut versions.

Now, as for the topless woman discussed, this always made me wonder... what WERE those creatures doing? LOL If they are blood drinkers and not flesh munchers, why attempt to tear open her stomach or chest as they appeared to want to? Simple: it makes a good excuse to show a topless lady. ;) Such as the nipple rip in the TV studio. It makes little sense to do that to a victim whom you are attacking for their blood, i.e. why spill so much? But, it makes for damn fine exploitation. :D
